This book was truly life changing, I enjoyed every page and every chapter! What I liked most about it was it was an easy read, meaning, it didn't read like a text book, it read like a helpful guide. I have been studying Mindful Eating for over a year, and this book truly tied all of my learning together and clarified a lot in one spot. A MUST read!
Excellent book based on mindfulness practices to help one become more aware around eating. Not a diet-no foods are off limits. The author guides readers to pay attention to body signals (rather than mind hunger) and what feels good in your body. Chapters also address how to take care of yourself holistically-not only focusing on what you eat. Concise and contains easy to understand (but not always easy to practice) suggestions and tools for eating mindfully. I highly recommend taking her online course in conjunction with reading the book.
I'm a 54 year old male and my BMI hovers around 18 so I probably don't fit the profile of most readers of this book, but I face my own battles with food and found the book to be quite helpful. The book mentions an iPhone app called the Insight Timer, and I've been using its feature of interval bells as a tool to slow down the eating process (I set the bells to repeat about every 50 seconds). I've found this to be very useful when eating things like steel cut oats, which have a way of sneaking up on you and making you feel miserably stuffed if you're not careful.
My book shelves are crammed but this is a book that will stay in my library permanently. I am lucky enough not to have a weight problem and I have eaten a healthy diet for years, but this book opened my eyes to the pleasures of mindful eating. Food tastes much better, and I am thoroughly enjoying every mouthful, simply by being more attentive and aware of what I am doing. I feel better after meals, more energetic and happier. I am more appreciative of my aging process, too, because Lynn Rossy's book is as much about living well and fully as it is about eating well. Written with such kindness and wisdom, this book actually makes good food more delicious and pleasurable. We should definitely teach our children to eat this way from the time they are tiny. And it is not about having expensive and exotic foods, but simply about slowing down, tasting, savoring and delighting in the healthful and simple foods available to all of us. She uses a beautiful quotation from Wendell Berry in Chapter 9: "Eating with the fullest pleasure -- pleasure, that is, that does not depend on ignorance -- is perhaps the profoundest enactment of our connection with the world." So lovely.
This is a well-thought out, intelligent book on the hows and whys of eating mindfully. Dr. Lynn Rossy does not gloss over the challenges of mindful eating. She presents many reasons as to what may be REALLY causing your problems in your relationship with food, and most interestingly, it may not have anything to do with food at all, which, in my journey, is turning out to be the case. I have also taken her on-line classes that compliment this book, and between her support and the support of my fellow classmates, I feel much more at ease with myself and accepting of where I am on this path to mindful eating. Dr. Rossy is a REAL, GENUINE person, not full of hype, quick answers, and false promises. Her voice shines through in her book. I highly recommend this book (plus her classes)!!

The author writes in a clear and gentle voice that guides the reader through a simple and effective approach to eating. She supports her approach with plenty of research and her years of experience and training in the field of mindfulness based strategies for health and well-being. I read the book in a day and have found myself eating less and enjoying it more. Don't pass up this delicious gem of a book that shines above others in its class.
Lynn Rossy has a clear and relatable sense with her writing and addresses our "mindlessness" regarding food with a loving and kind acceptance . This approach helps us transcend the defeat we have all felt!
