Being a child of the 1950’s whenever a mother had a question regarding the raising of their children the book they would ultimately turn to would always be “Baby and Child Care†by Dr. Benjamin McLane Spock. The book helped mothers raised their children from infancy to toddlers to school age kids to adolescents.There was almost no topic the book didn’t have some sort of answer for. The book also helped parents to better comprehend their children’s needs and behavioral issues, as well as the child’s place in the overall dynamics of the family.My dear OH and I have no children, instead for the past, almost 23 years we’ve had “fur children†better known as our cats. While I knew the simple basics regarding cats and their behavior since I had them for about 12 years before getting married, this book has gone into far greater detail and has gone into areas I had no idea as how to handle.I received an ARC [Advance Reader’s Copy – uncorrected proof copy] through a giveaway the publisher had on GoodReads and this review is my honest opinion.In reading this book I found it quite well organized in a logical progression which mirrors a cat’s live from being a small kitten to that of being a senior citizen cat. This is a book we wish I and we had when we adopted our cute bundle of fur.Each chapter of the book has a question being raised and the followed by the author’s answer, which has been thoughtfully broken down into segments so the reader can better comprehend the solution being offered.Ms. Pam Johnson-Bennett in this book has done for cat lovers and their “fur children†what Dr. Spock had done for mothers and their real children; which is why I’m not hesitating in giving this book 5 STARS.
I bought this book right before getting a kitten. I haven't had a kitten in over 20 years. My last cat died five years ago. I needed a refresher course in kitten care and behavior. This was a great book. I finished reading all the parts that would pertain to my interests the night before I got the kitten. I highly recommend this book.
So my sister gits, not one, but two cats, and I have to get used to being around cats for the first time. What do I know about cat behavior? Nothing. Then I read Cat Wise and lo and behold, I now really see what their behavior means. This book has become my guidebook into the world of cats. I could not recommend it more to anyone who wants to understand or just learn more about their favorite pets.
LOVE this book! Pam Johnson-Bennett is very clear, as well as a total authority on cats; she has spent a lifetime loving them, so I trust her views. She gave me a lot of ideas on making the lives of my 3 kitties more interesting & taught me a lot about feline behavior. The Q&A format makes it easy to skim the book for a desired topic, but the first time I read it straight through & enjoyed the author's light & humorous style. I bought a 2nd copy for my cat-loving daughter. I have a couple other books by Pam Johnson-Bennett but this is my favorite.
Pam Johnson-Bennett's books are my go-to resources for everything I want to know about cats. I have had cats for over 40 years and I also do cat rescue. I recommend her books to all of my adopters. No one knows cats like Pam Johnson-Bennett!
Very helpful to me as i know little about cats. My wife has had many cats and also uses this to research questions about our adopted cat. We would buy it for others if had the chance.
For someone who had not had a cat for some 30 years, Pam's book became my bible. In fact, when produced "Meeting Missy" viideo, I pictured "CatWise" as my great 'mentor', hopefully encouraging others to read and find relief in this book. I still use it to answer questions that always arise when being responsible for my furry friend.
I bought this book as a resource so I really only read "as needed". But it seems to be pretty well researched.
Helpful, informative, and great at explaining the reasons behind her ideas and experience.
