The Clean Coder: A Code of Conduct for Professional Programmers

Review

“‘Uncle Bob’ Martin definitely raises the bar with his latest book. He explains his expectation for a professional programmer on management interactions, time management, pressure, on collaboration, and on the choice of tools to use. Beyond TDD and ATDD, Martin explains what every programmer who considers him- or herself a professional not only needs to know, but also needs to follow in order to make the young profession of software development grow.” –Markus Gärtner Senior Software Developer it-agile GmbH www.it-agile.de www.shino.de   “Some technical books inspire and teach; some delight and amuse. Rarely does a technical book do all four of these things. Robert Martin’s always have for me and The Clean Coder is no exception. Read, learn, and live the lessons in this book and you can accurately call yourself a software professional.” –George Bullock Senior Program Manager Microsoft Corp.   “If a computer science degree had ‘required reading for after you graduate,’ this would be it. In the real world, your bad code doesn’t vanish when the semester’s over, you don’t get an A for marathon coding the night before an assignment’s due, and, worst of all, you have to deal with people. So, coding gurus are not necessarily professionals. The Clean Coder describes the journey to professionalism . . . and it does a remarkably entertaining job of it.” –Jeff Overbey University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign   “The Clean Coder is much more than a set of rules or guidelines. It contains hard-earned wisdom and knowledge that is normally obtained through many years of trial and error or by working as an apprentice to a master craftsman. If you call yourself a software professional, you need this book.” –R. L. Bogetti Lead System Designer Baxter Healthcare www.RLBogetti.com

From the Back Cover

Even bad code can function. But if code isn't clean, it can bring a development organization to its knees. Every year, countless hours and significant resources are lost because of poorly written code. But it doesn't have to be that way. Noted software expert Robert C. Martin presents a revolutionary paradigm with "Clean Code: A Handbook of Agile Software Craftsmanship." Martin has teamed up with his colleagues from Object Mentor to distill their best agile practice of cleaning code "on the fly" into a book that will instill within you the values of a software craftsman and make you a better programmer-but only if you work at it. What kind of work will you be doing? You'll be reading code-lots of code. And you will be challenged to think about what's right about that code, and what's wrong with it. More importantly, you will be challenged to reassess your professional values and your commitment to your craft. "Clean Code" is divided into three parts. The first describes the principles, patterns, and practices of writing clean code. The second part consists of several case studies of increasing complexity. Each case study is an exercise in cleaning up code-of transforming a code base that has some problems into one that is sound and efficient. The third part is the payoff: a single chapter containing a list of heuristics and "smells" gathered while creating the case studies. The result is a knowledge base that describes the way we think when we write, read, and clean code. Readers will come away from this book understandingHow to tell the difference between good and bad codeHow to write good code and how to transform bad code into good codeHow to create good names, good functions, good objects, and good classesHow to format code for maximum readabilityHow to implement complete error handling without obscuring code logicHow to unit test and practice test-driven developmentThis book is a must for any developer, software engineer, project manager, team lead, or systems analyst with an interest in producing better code.

As with Clean Code, that other classic also by Robert C. Martin, The Clean Coder is one of these books I wish had fallen in my hands way before they did. There are many other books that teach you how to write good code - that is not the purpose of this book. Rather, Uncle Bob strives to show you how to be a good professional, and all that entails. If the concept makes you want to sneer, don't - there are lots of behaviors that we'd normally do which are not professional and hurt both your company as yourself. Have you ever said "yes" when pressed to commit to an unreasonable deadline? Pushed half-done work through? Given overly optimistic estimations that people thought of as deadlines? Felt forced to wade through a mess of (partly) your own making? Well, even if you haven't, odds are that you will at some time, as (sadly) every developer finds themselves at such situations at some point during this career. What this book aims to do is to help you identify these situations, explain why these are harmful and provide you with the tools to better respond to these. Oh, and of course, expect the usual useful insight on how to improve your programming practices. While Clean Code was a bit hard to read sometimes and made you stop every now and then, if only to get a better grasp of the concepts, this one feels so relatable that it reads in a breeze. What more can you ask for?Our craft would be a lot better if every programmer was given a copy of this before they started working. Or at the very least, I am certain that this book has helped me become a better professional and I expect its teachings will continue to do so.

I accidentally ordered this instead of clean code (based on a word of mouth recommendation).I decided to read it anyway, since it was by the same author.Terrible advice. I stopped reading at the part when he suggests a 60 hour work week. Even if the extra 20 are "professional development" hours, this is awful, unsafe advice that is more a recipe for burnout and stress-related illnesss than it is a powerful career as a professional. A real professional sees their fiduciary responsibility to both the customers and their employeer to deliver a _sustainable_ flow of _quality_ work every week.He goes on to rationalize this point of view by opining that a professional doesn't expect any help (in terms of financial assistance or work hours) from their employer for professional development - and if they do get it they should be so groveling at their employeers feet in thanks.Again, no. A true professional knows that a company that leans on its knowledge workers desperately needs those workers to stay current and will work to change the culture at their workplace if the organization is not providing time for professional development in a way that satisfies and also-necessary sustainable pace! With advice this bad in the first chapter, I couldn't afford the time to finish it. In my opinion "Rework" by Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hanssonmuch is a much better, more-modern book on the subject.

This book is filled with anecdotes, hypothetical conversations, but mostly filled with different ways to say "be responsible." Any scenarios he gives are either too fabricated to be believable (please never write dialogue again) or so focused on taking responsibility that he dodges actual tricky issues. A lot of statements he makes you know he doesn't believe but thinks the hyperbole is going to give you an "aha" moment. It won't. The biggest disaster is saying a professional programmer would crack open their checkbook and reimburse the company for any money lost due to a bug in their code. I defy you to find where he ever admits to doing that, ever. This is the man who brought the wrath of the Teamsters down on his company due to a bug. He may not have been professional then, but he's not saying how he'd do anything different, either. He preaches the gospel of test driven development, but brushes off prohibitively long compile times as being the programmer's fault, admits that 10% of his own codebase isn't covered by his tests (though he tries to shift blame to someone else and believes the percentage, although not 100%, is better than 90. Take responsibility, dude), and often says "there are exceptions" without pointing out what the exceptions would be. Those are more important than spending 30 pages repeating yourself on the rules. Why is ~10% of that codebase not tested? What's an example of a "dogma getting in the way of productivity" the discerns the difference for someone that thinks coding a test for every trivial piece of code is, in fact, getting in the way?On making commitments he has some good advice about saying no and giving realistic estimates on the time it will take to complete things. The author does not, however, give real advice on how to deal with a boss that will not accept "no" or a timeline that does not meet their expectations. How does the professional programmer deal with "you'll do this by tomorrow or you're fired" when she knows it will take 4 days? How does the professional programmer deal with a negative performance evaluation that says he is not productive enough, even though he met all the commitments he made, but not on a timetable the manager wanted to see? There are no answers in this book, just preaching. And not good preaching, it's the kind where the preacher gives a firey sermon about adultery when you know he's sleeping with the choir director's wife. I was hoping for a software engineer's guide to soft skills in the workplace and how to approach team interactions more effectively. Instead I found out i'm not going to be a professional. But that's okay, neither is Bob.

I think I read this book many years later after starting my career as a software developer. I wish I read this when I was younger so I could perform better and in a more professional way. This book has been a breakthrough in my professional life. It opened my eyes in regard with of taking responsibility of my actions as a software engineer. It for sure had helped me to grow up as a person and as a professional.

If you are looking for a plot-driven page turner, this is not it, but if you are looking for a lovingly crafted, intimate portrait of a young woman, you have found exactly what you are looking for. Voigt’s books are not full of fast, thrilling action, but a quiet view of young people as they learn and grow and figure themselves out.In “Come a Stranger,” Mina is a young, talented black ballerina at a time when such a thing was unheard of. After receiving a scholarship to summer dance camp, she learns about things of which she had never been conscious before: classical music, complete creative expression, and subtle racism. Upon returning home, she finds her world different because she herself has changed. And when her new world crashes around her, she opens her heart to her home, and to a deep, respectful love of a visiting pastor. To give him the ultimate gift, she befriends Dicey Tillerman, and in doing so, gives herself and her family a gift they could not have foreseen.Voigt’s characters are always impeccably written, and true deep down in their very cores. Fans of “Dicey’s Song” will love watching the way the plots of the books interweave, and how Voigt illuminates the inner workings of Mina’s motivations. There are certainly plot lines that might leave some scratching their heads - How exactly are we supposed to read Mina's relationship with Tamer Shipp? - but Voigt has never pretended that life can be wrapped up in a neat package and topped with a bow. A lovely read. I couldn't put it down.

It starts a little slow but if you hand in there it's a fantastic book! It's about self acceptance, love, and perception! You get to know Mina and her fears and struggles; as well as getting to know Diceyvand the Tillerman clan through a different perspective. I love this book!!!

I love this book!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book and it was a perfect addition to the series!

This book in Voigt's Tillerman cycle isn't as powerful as DICEY'S SONG or A SOLITARY BLUE, but it holds its own with the the others. The only book in the cycle with an African-American narrator, like A SOLITARY BLUE, COME A STRANGER offers an outsider's perspective on the close-knit Tillerman family. Well worth reading.

I read (and loved) the entire Tillerman Series Novels when I was in junior high. This year, I decided to read them again, and I'm so glad I did. I feel like I have a completely new appreciation for the books as an adult. "Come A Stranger" is about Mina, one of Dicy's friends. It deals a lot with being black about 100 years after slavery ended in America. Cynthia Voigt does an incredible job of truly letting the reader in to the emotions of the characters. It's also very unique how each book in the series doesn't necessarily go in order of time. She takes you into the lives of characters who are related to the Tillerman children, and then you see how their lives intertwine. She is building a much bigger story, with a unique look inside many different characters. These books are truly fantastic literature. I highly recommend them to junior high students and adults alike.

very well written, I loved the whole series

great series/coudn't put them down/much more to the story between the lines/every junior high student should read these books/maybe learn how kids had it back then

I was a resident of HK for 3 and a half years before the handover. I remember speaking to some obnoxious Australian "journalist" at Christmas time 1996-97 who was absolutely convinced that the Chinese army was going to invade HK and that there would be a Tiananmen Square-style bloodbath. This guy had been sent from Australia to report on the build-up to the hand-over and was simply not interested in hearing any opinions that did not fit into his doomsday nonsense. At the time I was finishing off an MPhil in pol sci at HKU, but this was of no interest to our journo "expert"! I also remember watching the appaling coverage on CNN with some ridiculous American "journalist" making the most innane comments and getting it all wrong. He had obviously been flown in from the States a week before June 30 and was now "the expert" on the handover. I also remember him making continual petty digs at the British. Anyway, what I am saying is that if this book is about exposing the "instant experts" that popular journalism creates and about showing up the pathetic parachute journos (from whom most people get their info from - scary!) then it is an excellent venture and I'm going to buy it!

I wish I had this little book when I started. It's very simple and only 42 page but it is very efficient. The first couple of examples - *transliteration* of English words in Persian !! - was weird at first sight. You will learn all the Persian letters perfectly - all forms - and how to pronounce them. You will learn a lot of common Persian words (including proper names). The author still managed to include a little glossary. The presentation is very clear and so are the fonts. It has many practice exercises (very simple ones but efficient ones). Memorization is everything and this helps tremendously. It will NOT teach you how to write the Persian script but that is not the goal here.Well done in 42 pages ! Strongly recommended.I recommend reading it everyday so that you can memorize plenty of common words.

I am about half-way through this book and it is INCREDIBLY helpful. I'm trying to learn Farsi on my own and even with other language learning books/software I still had some questions on reading Farsi, and this is a very easy-to-understand guide and makes the language seem very approachable.

Really great book! I learned how to speak Persian since I was born, but I was never taught reading and writing. This book is very short, but very thin too, so great to bring around. Don't expect any miracles or anything too substantive, but I'm sure it will be a great product for starting to learn to read :)

I have been struggling with learning to read Farsi. This is so good how it teaches you on the first day to read simple words. I may not read in 5 days very well but I now can sould out the words. Next step is to understand the words better. This is a good beginner book and I highly recommend it.

Good stuff

Excellent product.

The Betrayed Profession: Lawyering at the End of the Twentieth Century., by Sol M. Linowitz Martin Mayer

From Library Journal

Linowitz, senior partner of Coudert Brothers and former general counsel and chairman of the board of Xerox, writes on the sea change that has occurred in law practice over the past 50 years. He tells how and why lawyers have stopped being true counselors and have started being big businessmen. He laments at length the lack of ethics in the profession today and details what law schools, firms, bar associations, and judges should do to ameliorate these problems. It is not clear whether those addressed by Linowitz feel motivated to make the changes he suggests; in a sense, his voice is a cry in the wilderness. For legal ethics collections only.Elizabeth Fielder Olson, Archer & Greiner, Haddonfield, N.J.Copyright 1994 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Kirkus Reviews

Overlong and overly impressionistic breast-beating from one of the elder statesmen of the American bar with help from Mayer (The Greatest Ever Bank Robbery, 1990). How profound can reader response be to a book that conludes: ``The fault is not in our stars but in ourselves''? Linowitz, former US ambassador and currently senior partner of a noted ``white shoe'' law firm, gave a lawyer-thumping speech at Cornell Law School's centenary celebration. Apparently aided and abetted by several Supreme Court justices who sent admiring notes about the speech, he has here elongated it into a book-length treatment about the decline of standards in the legal profession. His major complaint is that too many lawyers, faced with increased competition and the drive for personal profit, have abdicated their independence--i.e., they are ``afraid to say no'' to clients. This might make a hard-hitting op-ed piece despite the confusing title (``betrayed'' by whom?), but the argument peters out when blown up to over 200 pages, largely on the strength of material that seems more anecdotal than evidentiary. The book has its stranger moments, as when Linowitz lionizes old-line titans like Paul Cravath for their courage to defy their clients while admitting that the doors of the law firms run by Cravath and his peers were shut to Linowitz as a young lawyer because of his ethnic origins. Too often Linowitz's valid reflections (e.g., on the unhealthy change from a long-term lawyer/client relationship to one-shot transaction work) nestle uncomfortably next to pointless or confusing stories (``An ever-increasing number of people no longer admire doctors''). Linowitz's ``solutions''--greater independence, more pro bono work- -are worthy but not exactly cutting-edge stuff. While aware of the temptation to glorify the ``good old days,'' Linowitz is not too successful in avoiding that trap: he complains of the ``forced retirement of senior partners `who had the wisdom and leisure to serve as mentors.' '' A real ho-hum. -- Copyright ©1994, Kirkus Associates, LP. All rights reserved.

OCTOBER 2012 - I AM A GRADUATE OF STANFORD UNIVERSITY, THE NEW YORK UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW, AND TOOK MY GRADUATE DEGREES IN AMERICAN CIVILIZATION AND IN AMERICAN STUDIES FROM NEW YORK UNIVERSITY AND YALE UNIVERSITY. I PRACTICED LAW IN NEW YORK CITY AND IN LOS ANGELES FOR SLIGHTLY OVER 35 YEARS, AND I AM STILL ACTIVE WITH "PRO BONO PUBLICO" WORK IN SUCH AREAS AS ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENSE AND MASS TORT LITIGATION. DURING MY YEARS IN PRACTICE - I AM NOW IN MY MID-70'S - MY SPECIALTIES WERE BANKING, FINANCE, LARGE-SCALE PROJECT INFRASTRUCTURE FINANCE, ENERGY FINANCE, AND LARGE-SCALE INTERNATIONAL AND DOMESTIC PRIVATE EQUITY TRANSACTIONS.DURING THIS TIME I OBSERVED ... BY LIVING THROUGH IT, AND PARTICIPATING IN IT ...THE MUTATION OF THE PRACTICE OF LAW IN THE UNITED STATES FROM ONE WHICH STEADILY DEVOLVED ... PALPABLY AND VISIBILY, AND LIVED EACH DAY, BOTH IN THE OFFICE AND INTHE COURTS ... FROM ONE WHICH PLACED ITS EMPHASIS UPON THAT OF BEING A "COUNSELOR," TO ONE WHICH WAS, IN THE WORDS OF ONESENIOR AND HIGH-RANKING PARTNER IN ONE HIGHLY-RANKED NEW YORK CITY LAW FIRM, "FRANKLY ENTREPRENEURIAL." THE EMPHASIS SHIFTED FROM ONE WHICH WAS PREDOMINANTLY HUMANE, TO ONE WHICH WAS MORE ... AND ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY ... FOCUSED UPON "THE BOTTOM LINE," AND "PROFITS PER PARTNER" (AS MEASURED AND REPORTED IN ALMOST PORNOGRAPHIC DETAIL AT REGULAR INTERVALS IN "THE AMERICAN LAWYER").THE CONCEPT OF LAW AS THAT OF A COLLEGIAL PROFESSION, AND ONE IN WHICH THE DEFECTION OF A PARTNER IN A FIRM TO ANOTHER ONEFOR GREATER COMPENSATION WAS AN ALMOST UNHEARD OF SCANDAL AS RECENTLY AS, SAY, THE YEARS OF THE EISENHOWER ADMINISTRAION ... AND HOW THAT CONCEPT CAME, INCREMENTALLY, TO BE PROGRESSIVELY UNDERMINED IN ITS OWN UNDERPINNING OF A SENSE OF SHARED MORALITY, WAS WELL SET FORTH, BEFORE THE PUBLICATION OF SOL LINOWITZ'S MOST WELCOME BOOK (CO-AUTHORED WITH MARTIN MEYER), IN THE NOVELS OF, ABOVE ALL, THE LATE LOUIS AUCHINCLOSS.AMBASSADOR LINOWITZ ... THE FORMER CHAIRMAN OF XEROX CORPORATION, SPECIAL UNITED STATES AMBASSADOR ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE CHIEF NEGOTIATOR OF THE PANAMA CANAL TREATY, AND FINALLY THE SPECIAL CHAIRMAN OF THE VENERABLE INTERNATIONAL LAW FIRM OF COUDERT BROTHERS ... WITNESSED ALL OF THIS OVER THE SPAN OF HIS LIFETIME. AND HE WAS BOTH TROUBLED AND DISMAYED BY WHAT HE SAW TO BE A ONCE NOBLE PROFESSION PROGRESSIVELY DEGRADED BY ... THERE IS NO BETTER WORD ... GREED. HE WROTE THIS BOOK AS A PERSONAL WITNESS TO WHAT HE HAD SEEN ... AND AS A CAUTIONARY WARNING, THROUGH THE TELLING OF THE STORY, TO THE PROFESSION IN WHICH HE HAD SO ADMIRABLY PARTICIPATED. FITTINGLY ENOUGH, HE DEDICATED IT TO HIS FAMILY, AND ESPECIALLY TO HIS DAUGHTERS, WHO, HE SAID, KEPT TELLING HIM ... AND ONE MAY ONLY IMAGINE THE FAMILY SETTINGS IN WHICH SUCH COMMENTS ANDURGINGS WERE MADE TO HIM "AT THE END OF HIS DAILY AND TIRED DAY" ... THAT "DAD, YOU HAVE TO WRITE IT DOWN."A GREAT "READ," A GREAT SERVICE TO THE PRACTICE OF LAW, AND A GREAT SERVICE TO ANYONE WHO PICKS UP THIS BOOK, AND READS WHAT "SOL" WANTED TO TELL US HE HAD WITNESSED AT FIRST HAND.J. BAILEY HUDSON, JR., ESQ.CALIFORNIA STATE BAR NO: 091034FALLBROOK, CALIFORNIA

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is a good expose' that depicts how Lawyers have betrayed a once noble profession that sought to temper justice with reason and mercy. How did they betray their profession? Simply put, it was their luster for money and power In America. That's why, as an old saying states, it's better to be rich and guilty than to be poor and innocent. Read, ponder and enjoy! Robin Lee, J.D.

One other example for reality (truth - considering the author!)being far more riveting than fiction! The decay of american Law (and society, for that matter) is traced back to how a profession betrayed itself! The "Miranda" debacle of Bobby K. started the real breakdown. An entire virtual industry emerged from it and corroded the integrity of not only the legal profession, but dragged down with it also the medical one into a "profit-sharing" business! BRAVO! Mr. Mayer should team up with other disillusioned professionals to create similar eposes!

The Hatseller And The Monkeys, by Baba Wagué Diakité

From Publishers Weekly

Fans of Slobodkina's Caps for Sale will relish this fresh twist on a hat vendor's comical skirmish with some clever primates, set in Diakite's (The Hunterman and the Crocodile) native Mali. BaMusa is not only a hatseller, but descends from a long line of hatmakers. After a brief explanation of how he learned to make wide-brimmed dibiri hats and close-fitting fugulan caps, he heads to town to sell them. He stops to nap under a mango tree, where some monkeys relieve him of his hats. The author makes the most of the interplay between the mischievous culprits and BaMusa with phrases children will want to imitate right along with the characters ("Tchat, tchat, tchat!" yells BaMusa; "Hoop, hoop, hoop!" the monkeys reply). Diakite's version imparts a new moral: only after the man eats some of the monkey's mangoes can he think with a clear head?and reclaim his hats. Ceramic-tile paintings on each spread depict the action in fluid, bold brushwork with man and creatures outlined in white against backgrounds of nearly transparent blue sky. Opposite each full-color tile image, a page with brief text set against a white background shows off a spot line drawing. Diakite then frames each page with a ring of monkeys in silhouette tumbling over one another. The handsome design emphasizes the detailed artwork of the tree teeming with life: leaves, mangoes, lizards, dragonflies, bats and butterflies, as well as the scampering monkeys sporting BaMusa's brightly threaded hats. In this retelling, Diakite's use of language is as colorful and unusual as his artwork. Ages 4-7. Copyright 1999 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 3?A West African version of the beloved folktale about a peddler whose hats are stolen by monkeys. The story has been fleshed out a bit with African words and background about the hatseller's life. Hurrying to a festival, BaMusa does not take time to eat breakfast. When he takes a nap beneath a tree, playful monkeys steal his wares. After being showered with mangoes, the man has a snack and figures out how to get his hats back. The moral is: "it is with a full stomach that one thinks best." Diakite illustrates the tale with lively and authentic ceramic tile paintings that are faintly reminiscent of, but not as elegant as, Leo and Diane Dillon's illustrations for Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ears (Dial, 1975),. Each page is bordered with drawings of monkeys in a variety of poses. An author's note gives sources and lists other variants, including the perennial favorite, Esphyr Slobodkina's Caps for Sale (HarperCollins, 1947). Libraries owning other versions of this tale, such as Susanne Suba's The Monkeys and the Pedlar (Viking, 1970; o.p.), will also want to consider The Hatseller. It deserves a place on the African folktale shelves with Barbara Knutson's Sungura and Leopard (Little, Brown, 1993; o.p.) and Angela Shelf Medearis's Too Much Talk (Candlewick, 1995).?Pam Gosner, formerly at Maplewood Memorial Library, NJCopyright 1999 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Love this! Came as promised, excellent condition. I use this in my pre- k class to compare and contrast with our curriculum book, Caps For Sale!

Acquired this book for Treehouse Books in Philadelphia for their kids. This organization is helping to grow and sustain a community of readers, writers and thinkers in NW Philadelphia. Kudos!

Looking froward to the opportunity to share this book with my students.

Damaged. Not impressed.

Strongly stylized art and a little background about the hatseller is what makes this book standout. The author discusses how BaMusa (the hatseller) learned to make hats and caps from rice stalks when he was a boy. It also gives the name of some of the hats and how they differ in style because they are intended for different purposes. There are the wide brimmed dibiri hats and the embroidered fugulan caps.In addition, the author emphasizes how important breakfast is to clear thinking and having a good day: "an empty satchel can not stand."Four Stars. Strongly stylized art. Good Read-aloud. Additional background information about the hatseller makes this book standout.

My children were already familiar _Caps for Sale_, which is an older version of the same folktale. I thought the kids would think this was cute, but prefer _Caps for Sale_, as the text is more rhythmic and shorter.I was wrong. My kids REALLY like _The Hatseller and the Monkeys_! Diakite's charming, colorful illustrations, well-described setting (monkeys in Mali makes a heck of a lot more sense then monkeys in Eastern Europe), and sound moral set this book apart. My 2 y o clamored for it to be read again and again. The two books would be great paired in a folktale unit for grades K-2.

This is a West African variation of a wonderful old folk tale. An ambitious hatseller encounters a tree full of curious, clever and comical monkeys who not only steal his hats and make fun of him but also teach him the best way to start each day! The text is lyrical, with some African words and expressions, and the illustrations are colorful and lively. A fun read-aloud.
